268 Suspects Arrested in Kratie Province's Drug Crackdown in First Half of 2026

In Kratie Province, northeastern Cambodia, a large-scale crackdown on drug-related offenses has resulted in the arrest of 268 suspects in 136 cases during the first half of 2026, according to the Kratie Provincial Police Commissioner's Office. Seized evidence included approximately 601 packages of methamphetamine (ICE), weighing 2852.82 grams, 21 pills of methamphetamine (WY), weighing 1.49 grams, about 54.68 grams of dried herbs, one package of an unidentified substance weighing 8.72 grams, and 29 drug-weighing scales. Authorities also confiscated one car, 90 motorcycles, 232 mobile phones, one pistol magazine, 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one hand grenade, and 120,000 Cambodian Riel (approximately $30 USD). In parallel, on July 30, 2026, the Kratie Provincial Administration organized International Day Against Drug Abuse under the theme "Together Respond to Drug Issues with New Themes and Creativity." The event was attended by Mr. Thuy Bunsereyrathmony, Deputy Governor of Kratie Province. Provincial authorities stated that the drug control committee, law enforcement officers, and relevant institutions are continuing to diligently investigate and crack down on all types of drug offenses within their jurisdiction, aiming to alleviate public concerns. Deputy Governor Thuy Bunsereyrathmony emphasized that resolving drug issues cannot solely depend on the authorities but requires the participation of all parties, utilizing new ideas, methodologies, and technologies for more effective prevention, suppression, treatment, and rehabilitation. Cambodia, with its geographical proximity to neighboring countries, faces challenges as a potential transit route for drug trafficking. Influxes of narcotics have been a particular concern in border areas with China and Vietnam, prompting the government to intensify crackdowns in these regions. The recent large-scale arrests in Kratie Province are part of these ongoing efforts.
