Canada Values Relations with Vietnam, Eyes Tech Cooperation

Canada attaches importance to its Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam and is keen to further strengthen bilateral relations. Specifically, through joint funding mechanisms, clear coordination channels, and market-driven projects, the two countries aim to move technological cooperation beyond the exchange of ideas, leveraging their complementary strengths to build a shared innovation ecosystem. Since the establishment of their Comprehensive Partnership framework in 2017, bilateral relations have developed steadily across a wide range of areas. Canada's current emphasis is expected to promote more substantive and closely connected Vietnam-Canada ties, reaffirming Vietnam's proactive and responsible role in global issues. It also aims to further enhance Vietnam's contributions to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development. Vietnam, under its one-party system, has achieved economic growth and increased its presence on the international stage. While its economic ties with China are strong, it faces geopolitical tensions, particularly concerning the South China Sea. In this context, strengthening relations with Western countries like Canada holds strategic significance for Vietnam. Deepening technological cooperation and partnerships is crucial for sustaining economic growth and pursuing a balanced foreign policy in the international arena.
