Beans from the upper Chindwin River area see significant price drop

In the upper regions of Myanmar's Sagaing Region, bean harvests have decreased, and prices have also fallen significantly, according to bean wholesale markets in Monywa city. A bean wholesale owner in Monywa city said that white beans, which initially sold for over 130,000 kyats per bag at the beginning of the harvest, have now dropped to 85,000 kyats per bag due to a lack of foreign buyers. Red beans also saw a yield of around 50 bags per acre last year, but this year only about 20 bags per acre were harvested. Furthermore, red kidney beans, which initially sold for around 80,000 kyats per bag, are now only fetching around 75,000 kyats per bag as Chinese buyers are no longer purchasing them, according to a bean storer in Monywa city. Although Chinese buyers are no longer purchasing red kidney beans, they are still being used by domestic animal feed producers and confectioners.
