Singkawang Businessman Shot Dead, 3 Arrested Within 24 Hours

A businessman in Singkawang, West Kalimantan, was found shot dead in front of his home. Police have arrested three suspects, including the alleged shooter, less than 24 hours after the incident. An air rifle is believed to have been used. The victim, identified as Cung Su Liat, 55, was shot on Monday morning in front of his residence on Jalan Tanjung Batu Dalam Kopisan, Sedau Village, Singkawang Barat District. He sustained a gunshot wound to his back that penetrated his chest. His son, Cung Wui, reported the incident to the Singkawang Police after finding his father. The victim was rushed to Abdul Aziz Hospital but was pronounced dead en route. Kanit Resmob Polda Kalbar, Ipda Tri Satrio Sulistomo, stated that a joint team from Resmob Polda Kalbar, Ditreskrimum Polda Kalbar, and Satreskrim Polres Singkawang immediately launched an investigation upon receiving the report. "The team conducted a crime scene investigation, interviewed several witnesses, and traced the whereabouts of the perpetrator based on the results of the field investigation," Tri said on Tuesday (4/8/2026). The investigation led to a man named Suchandri, who is suspected of being the shooter. Police then questioned a witness who reportedly assisted the suspect in obtaining an air rifle and accompanying him to the crime scene. Police successfully lured the suspect to a predetermined location. "The suspect finally arrived around 03:30 AM and was immediately secured by the team without resistance," Tri stated. In addition to Suchandri, two other individuals were arrested by the authorities. Each had different roles, with one suspected of being the initiator of the crime. Police also seized several pieces of evidence, including a Sharp Innova air rifle, clothing believed to have been worn during the commission of the crime, a bag, and a sum of cash suspected to be related to the case.
