Cambodia Boxing Federation Aims for International Support and Olympic Return Under New Leadership

The Cambodian Boxing Federation announced on September 16, 2026, the appointment of Mr. VLADIMIR PALANCICA as its new Vice President. The new Vice President pledged to work towards securing external support to further develop Cambodia's boxing sport. According to Mr. Bouy Sophond, President of the Cambodian Boxing Federation, the sport has seen remarkable progress in recent years through the cooperation of private sector partners and philanthropists. The federation has had opportunities to organize professional boxing matches throughout the year, leading to improved technical skills among national team boxers. Concurrently, the federation aims to develop Cambodian professional boxers towards an international level in the future. Furthermore, the Cambodian Boxing Federation has undertaken reforms in organizing competitions to align with international technical regulations, earning official recognition from BOXREC, the world's largest institution for registering and ranking professional boxing athletes. Mr. Bouy Sophond added that the appointment of Mr. Vladimir Palancica as Vice President of the Cambodian Boxing Federation will contribute to the sport's advancement. He also appealed to citizens, philanthropists, and television stations to support Cambodian boxing, with the vision of bringing Cambodian boxing back to compete in the Olympic Games, as it did in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. It is worth noting that for the 20th Asian Games to be held in Japan in September 2026, the federation has sent two national athletes to compete: Nasredinov Anvar in the 80kg category and Vey Sophors in the 70kg category.
