Ho Chi Minh City Aims for 30% Increase in Classrooms by 2030, Enhancing Education Quality

Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating school construction towards the goal of securing at least 300 classrooms per 10,000 school-aged children (aged 3-18) by 2030. This objective is intended not only to ensure learning opportunities for students but also to serve as a strategic foundation for building an advanced and modern education system at a regional level. Vietnam's education sector aims to enter a new phase of development, designating the 2026-2027 academic year as a "breakthrough year in quality." This aligns with a long-term vision for the country's education system to reach advanced standards within the region. The significance of this educational reform is also emphasized by the highest leadership. On the occasion of the opening of the 2026-2027 academic year, President To Lam (also General Secretary of the Communist Party) sent a letter to the education sector, encouraging it by stating that this academic year will bring about a leap in educational quality and open a new development stage for Vietnamese education. The push for school construction in Ho Chi Minh City highlights that improving educational infrastructure is an urgent issue amidst rapid urbanization and population growth. Under Vietnam's one-party system, education is positioned as a crucial pillar of national development, with the government aiming to further accelerate economic growth through the cultivation of high-quality human resources. In particular, educational quality is an indispensable element for enhancing international competitiveness.
