Ho Chi Minh City Driver Fined Heavily for Crossing Closed Railway Barrier

A serious incident threatening railway safety occurred in Ho Chi Minh City. On the evening of July 24, at a railway crossing on Pham Van Dong Street, a car driver attempted to force his way through a railway barrier despite the red signal, activated alarms, and the barrier beginning to descend. Consequently, the driver was fined VND 19 million (approximately $750 USD) and had his driver's license suspended for two months. According to local traffic police (CSGT), the driver explained that he "overshot the speed and tried to pass through the gap of the descending barrier." Surveillance cameras captured the entire incident, which was used in the police investigation. Fortunately, no property damage resulted from this incident. The route on Pham Van Dong Street, particularly towards Tan Son Nhat International Airport, is characterized by high traffic volume. It is noted that many drivers neglect to observe their surroundings and repeatedly violate safety regulations within railway areas. In the first half of this year alone, 826 railway safety violations were detected at this location. While Vietnam's transportation infrastructure is developing alongside its economic growth, enhancing traffic safety education and ensuring compliance with regulations are urgent priorities for safeguarding public safety.
