Prabowo: Government Not Anti-Criticism, But Distinguishes From Slander

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto clearly stated that the government is not hostile to criticism. Speaking at the 28th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7), the President said, "Criticism is good and can be a savior," emphasizing the value of constructive opinions. However, President Prabowo also pointed out the need to clearly distinguish between criticism and slander or insults. This statement appears intended to encourage the public to understand the line between freedom of expression towards the government and the spread of unfair attacks or false information. While freedom of speech is guaranteed by the constitution in Indonesia, with the spread of the internet, cases of extreme criticism and the dissemination of hoaxes on social media have become a social issue. The President's remarks can be interpreted as providing guidelines for promoting healthy democratic discussion, considering these circumstances. While the government shows a willingness to listen to public opinion, it also touched upon the responsibility of speech based on law.
