Chiang Rai Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver Who Injured Local Hero
A hit-and-run incident in Thailand's northern Chiang Rai province has left a local man injured after being struck from behind by a truck while riding his motorcycle. CHIANG RAI – Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a local man injured on a bridge in Thoeng district. The incident happened on the Chiang Rai-Thoeng Road. The victim, 46-year-old Mr. Korkiat Sitthiwiset, filed a formal complaint with the Thoeng Police Station from his hospital bed. He suffered injuries to his face, mouth, left arm, and knee after a pickup truck struck his motorcycle from behind. Emergency workers quickly rushed him to Thoeng Hospital, where doctors are currently running X-ray scans to check for deeper injuries. Mr. Korkiat explained that he was riding his motorcycle from his home in Huai Pong village to run an errand near the hospital. He was traveling in the far-left lane when the speeding truck suddenly struck him from behind without warning. The impact threw him onto the hard asphalt, leaving his motorcycle badly damaged on the side of the road. Fortunately, a helpful driver behind the motorcycle witnessed the whole crash and recorded it on a dashboard camera. The witness followed the black Toyota pickup truck as it sped away toward Chiang Rai city. The footage reveals that the truck carried Bangkok license plates and was swerving wildly across the road after the accident. Local police officers are now analyzing the dashboard camera footage to identify the owner of the vehicle. According to the Royal Thai Police, leaving the scene of an accident carries severe legal penalties, including heavy fines and jail time. Investigators are also checking public traffic cameras along the main road to track the direction of the fleeing truck.
