FAO Aids Climate Change Adaptation in Cambodia's Coastal Areas for Sustainable Fisheries and Water Security

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is implementing concrete adaptation measures to address climate change challenges faced by Cambodia's coastal regions, bringing about positive changes for local communities. Coastal communities are experiencing increased post-harvest losses, water scarcity, and reduced incomes due to climate change. According to an announcement on the afternoon of September 4, 2026, FAO, through the "CamAdapt" project, has introduced 50 small-scale solar dryers and two solar drying facilities. These facilities enable hygienic drying and preservation of fish catches, reducing losses and increasing the value of seafood products. Furthermore, 400 rainwater harvesting tanks are enhancing water security during the dry season. These solutions support 46 coastal communities across Kampot, Kep, Sihanoukville, and Koh Kong provinces. The CamAdapt project aims to support 100,000 residents, 50 percent of whom are women, and contributes to the sustainable management of 82,000 hectares of coastal ecosystems. From improved water security to reduced post-harvest losses, the CamAdapt project is transforming climate change adaptation into tangible results for coastal communities. The project is supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the General Directorate of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Environment, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
