ASEAN Observers Pledge to Inspect, Verify, and Report on Cambodia-Thailand Border Situation

The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) has reaffirmed its commitment to conduct on-site inspections, verifications, and reports along the Cambodia-Thailand border. Phnom Penh: According to a press release from the Spokesperson Unit of the Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 9:00 AM, Lieutenant General Pou Heng, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and Commander of Military Region 4, held a courtesy and working meeting with the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH). The team was led by Commodore GLENN Z DIZON, Chief of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT) and a Philippine military officer based in Cambodia, with coordination from the Cambodian Coordination Liaison Group (CLG) in Siem Reap province. On this occasion, Lieutenant General Pou Heng welcomed the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia under the Philippine-led mandate to the Military Region 4 Headquarters. He expressed his sincere gratitude for the team's strong commitment and efforts to support the promotion of peace, stability, and confidence in the region under the ASEAN mechanism. He also briefed the delegation of the ASEAN Observer Team on the latest developments of the Cambodia-Thailand border situation. In response, Commodore GLENN Z DIZON, Chief of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT) from the Philippines based in Cambodia, thanked Military Region 4 for consistently facilitating and providing convenience for all missions to inspect, verify, and report along the Cambodia-Thailand border after the ceasefire came into effect. He reiterated the strong commitment to fulfilling this important mission of inspecting, verifying, and reporting on the actual situation along the border. Cambodia consistently provides full support and strengthens the role of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, thereby promoting transparency, mutual trust, and protecting citizens' lives. Concurrently, Cambodia always welcomes friendly countries to send observers or participate in assisting peace efforts. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia continue to uphold their firm, sincere, and highly responsible commitment to fully and strictly respect and implement the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and other related agreements, aiming for rapid improvement and a return to normalcy, peace, and long-term stability.
