Bassac River Bridge Project Reaches 85% Completion, Targeting Mid-2027 Finish

Construction of a new bridge crossing the Bassac River, connecting Chak Angre Krom and Prek Pra in Phnom Penh, has reached 85% completion as of the first week of September 2026. The project, which broke ground on February 19, 2024, is progressing well according to schedule. Key progress includes 100% completion of bridge foundations, 100% of substructures, 100% of superstructure (connecting parts), 84.6% of the main superstructure, and 51% of the road connection. This includes 50% completion of the 804.30m connecting road and 50% of the 1.541m ramps. Project officials highly commended Shanghai Construction Company for its work, noting adherence to technical standards, contractual obligations, and commitment to quality and aesthetics. With the onset of the rainy season and rising river levels, the project management unit has instructed the contractor to strengthen work safety measures and maintain safety buoys on the water to ensure the safety of waterborne transportation users. Estimates suggest the bridge span will be connected by the end of 2026, with the entire project expected to be completed by mid-2027. The management unit has also urged the contractor to study and accelerate specific timelines for bridge connection and project completion, and to prepare plans for landscaping to enhance the bridge's aesthetics. This new Bassac River bridge will be the seventh bridge across the river and the fourth since the Koh Nor, Preah Monivong, and Koh Anlong Chen bridges. It is designed to connect to the Xi Jinping Boulevard.
