Information Team strongly condemns TIME Magazine article

The Information Team issued a press statement on Wednesday regarding the exclusive interview of President U Min Aung Hlaing with TIME Magazine.,It stated that TIME Magazine, through the Embassy of Myanmar in Singapore, requested an interview with the President for an article entitled “The Future of Myanmar.” The proposed interview was intended to cover the Myanmar Government’s historic role in safeguarding the Union and national solidarity, its efforts to promote peace and stability in Myanmar, and the achievements of the peace negotiations.,As TIME Magazine is a respected international media organization, the President responded positively to the request and granted an interview to journalist Charlie Campbell, answering the questions put to him. However, when the interview was published on TIME Magazine’s online platform, it was presented not in the original question-and-answer format in which the interview was conducted, but rather as an article.,Furthermore, the published article did not accurately reflect the responses given during the actual interview. It also included unfavorable and inappropriate commentary, interviews with other individuals, and various analyses that were not part of the original interview.,TIME Magazine and journalist Charlie Campbell, in breach of media ethics, placed emphasis on matters that were not included in the initial understanding concerning the interview and used wording that could cause the international community to develop misunderstandings and negative perceptions of the Myanmar Government and Myanmar. The material was presented according to the journalist’s own interpretation and editorial approach. In view of the above, Myanmar expressed strong condemnation of the article written by TIME Magazine journalist Charlie Campbell, as it failed to uphold and adhere to the standards and principles of media ethics.
