Cambodia Arrests Over 19,000 for Drug Offenses in 8 Months, Seizing Over 2.6 Tons

Cambodian authorities have arrested 19,652 individuals for drug-related offenses in the first eight months of the year, spanning 7,347 cases. According to the report, 49.5 percent of those apprehended were classified as traffickers, manufacturers, possessors, or transporters, while the remaining 50.5 percent were identified as drug users. Authorities also seized a total of 2.65 tons of narcotics and 282 kilograms of dried cannabis during this period. The seized drugs predominantly included ketamine, ecstasy, heroin, methamphetamine (ice), and cocaine. The Cambodian government has intensified its crackdown on drug crimes in recent years to combat the spread of narcotics within the country. Enforcement efforts are strong, focusing on dismantling supply chains, alongside educational campaigns aimed at preventing drug contamination among youth. However, drug trafficking organizations remain persistent, with cross-border smuggling routes being a notable concern, making countermeasures a long-term challenge.
