Cambodia Braces for Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Over Weekend
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds across 70% of the country from September 23-25 due to the influence of Tropical Depression Dujuan. Lowland and plateau areas are expected to be most affected.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on the morning of September 23, 2026, that Tropical Depression Dujuan (T2625) continues to influence the southwest monsoon, affecting the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia is not in the direct path of Tropical Depression Dujuan. The Ministry stated that this weather pattern will affect several areas within the Kingdom of Cambodia for three days, from September 23 to 25, 2026: 1. Lowland Areas: The average minimum temperature will be 25°C, and the average maximum temperature will be 33°C. Winds will blow from the southwest and northwest at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh City may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 70% of the area. 2. Plateau Areas: The average minimum temperature will be 24°C, and the average maximum temperature will be 31°C. Winds will blow from the southwest and west at an average speed of 5 meters per second. Provinces including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 70% of the area. 3. Coastal Areas: The average minimum temperature will be 25°C, and the average maximum temperature will be 34°C. Winds will blow from the southwest and southeast at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain area may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 60% of the area. Sea waves are expected to have an average minimum height of 0.50 meters and an average maximum height of 1.75 meters.
