Cambodia: Support for Border Soldier Families Amidst Border Dispute Tensions
Fifty families of border soldiers in Siem Reap, Cambodia, received food and cash donations. The gesture comes amidst ongoing border tensions with Thailand, aiming to show support for soldiers and their families and reaffirm trust in the government's security policies.
In Svay Sar village, Sva Reay commune, Varine district, Siem Reap province, 50 families of soldiers engaged in border defense against Thai incursions received food and cash donations on July 4, 2026. The support was provided by Bun Tharith, a Member of Parliament for the Siem Reap constituency, and his working team. Mr. Bun Tharith stated that ensuring the well-being of the families of soldiers stationed at the front lines is crucial, demonstrating that they are not alone and have the constant support of leadership and the government. He emphasized that visiting citizens is a vital duty for MPs to understand their hardships and needs, and that this humanitarian act serves to encourage the front-line forces defending the nation. The MP further highlighted that the nation's peace, children's education, and development are possible due to the immense sacrifices of the soldiers bravely defending the border. He acknowledged the significant sacrifices of the families who live apart from their spouses, children, or fathers serving the country, calling them a "strong rear support" that enables the soldiers to fight without worry. He urged the families to report any difficulties to the village and commune authorities for resolution and expressed confidence in the government's leadership, particularly Prime Ministers Hun Sen and Hun Manet, regarding national security and sovereignty protection through diplomatic and legal means. Mr. Bun Tharith pledged continued support for policies that improve the livelihoods and welfare of soldiers and their families. He declared that Cambodia can no longer tolerate Thai incursions and cautioned against incitement by certain individuals seeking to disrupt internal solidarity with Thailand.
