Cambodia and Japan Pledge to Strengthen Legislative and Economic Cooperation
Cambodia's National Assembly and Japanese Ambassador Ueno Atsushi met and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the legislative and economic sectors. Japan reaffirmed its long-standing support for Cambodia's peacebuilding and economic development, with both nations aiming to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Cambodia's National Assembly and Japanese Ambassador Ueno Atsushi have agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies and in the economic sector of both countries. The meeting took place on July 8, 2026, at the National Assembly. H.E. Sous Yara, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information, and President of the Cambodia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, received H.E. UENO ATSUSHI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, for a farewell meeting. H.E. Sous Yara expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their unwavering support in Cambodia's peacebuilding process and socio-economic recovery and development. He highly valued the 'Cambodia–Japan Economic Co-Creation Package'. He also commended Ambassador Ueno for his committed diplomatic mission during his tenure, which significantly contributed to strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Japan. In response, H.E. UENO ATSUSHI reaffirmed Japan's commitment to continue strengthening cooperation with Cambodia in areas such as infrastructure connectivity, maritime cooperation, ASEAN-Japan partnership, and the promotion of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. He also expressed his hope that cooperation and exchanges between the legislative institutions of both countries will continue to flourish in the near future.
