Myanmar President discusses investment in Dawei deep-sea port in Cambodia

On September 11, at 10:00 AM local time, the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, who is on a state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of His Majesty the King of Cambodia, met with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Provisional Head of State and President of the Senate of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace of the Senate of Cambodia. The two leaders discussed the potential for significant success if investments are made in the Dawei deep-sea port and special economic zone, which are being implemented in Myanmar. During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated that he has witnessed the current development of Myanmar and believes that trade and cooperation between the two countries can be further enhanced during the current state visit of the Senior General. He added that in this meeting, they would engage in frank discussions to promote friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. Subsequently, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing expressed his great pleasure at meeting Samdech Techo Hun Sen again and conveyed his greetings to His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen, who are currently abroad, and expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit. The Senior General remarked that he has noticed the impressive development of Phnom Penh and the beauty of Cambodia during his visit, and wishes to commend Samdech Techo Hun Sen for his unwavering determination, diligence, and efforts in developing the country to its current state, expressing pride in him. The Senior General also expressed his gratitude for Samdech Techo Hun Sen's consistent support for Myanmar with a brotherly spirit and his keen interest in Myanmar's progress. Furthermore, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that he is always grateful and remembers the support provided by Cambodia in a friendly manner when Samdech Techo Hun Sen served as Prime Minister of Cambodia and Cambodia assumed the role of ASEAN Chair. He also expressed his belief that frank discussions can be held to further promote friendly relations, mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, following his meeting with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who is an important pillar of Cambodia's legislature and the President of the Senate and the Royal Advisory Council. Subsequently, discussions were held on the long-standing good diplomatic relations between the two countries, the common religious, customary, and cultural ties despite not sharing borders, the good state of bilateral relations, the mutual support on regional and international fronts, and the improved relations not only between government organizations but also between the two armed forces and the peoples. Furthermore, discussions were held on the possibility of resuming mechanisms such as the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), the potential for mutual visits to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments, and the full cooperation of Myanmar and Cambodia in regional cooperation mechanisms such as Mekong-Lancang, CLMV, and ACMECS. In addition, discussions covered Myanmar's full cooperation within ASEAN, the promotion of cooperation in various sectors including trade and investment, agriculture, and livestock, Myanmar's effective efforts to eradicate online financial fraud and online gambling, the efforts to achieve domestic peace, the new government's continued efforts to further strengthen existing friendly relations with neighboring and partner countries and to pursue regional interests in a balanced manner, and the ongoing enhancement of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.
