Cambodia, GGGI Ink Deal to Enhance Environmental Cooperation for 2026-2028 Plan

The Cambodian Ministry of Environment and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have signed an agreement to extend their cooperation under the Country Planning Framework for 2026-2028. This accord aims to strengthen environmental collaboration in Cambodia, focusing on promoting green economic growth, conserving natural resources and the environment, and responding to climate change. The signing ceremony took place on July 28, 2026, at the Ministry of Environment, with Minister of Environment Dr. Eang Sophalleth and GGGI Executive Director Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim inking the deal. The plan will drive concrete actions towards achieving the strategic goal of making Cambodia a carbon-neutral nation by 2050, in strict adherence to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Emphasis will be placed on fostering green economic growth, conserving biodiversity, and adapting to climate change. Minister Eang Sophalleth expressed his profound gratitude to GGGI for its strong commitment to further strengthen and expand close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment. He lauded their contributions to making Cambodia cleaner, greener, and more sustainable, enhancing resilience and response to climate change. Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, in turn, praised the Minister's leadership in advancing Cambodia's environmental vision towards carbon neutrality by 2050. He also thanked the Ministry of Environment for its past support and facilitation, highlighting the collaboration towards the Ministry's "Clean, Green, and Sustainable" strategy, climate change mitigation, reforestation, and the promotion of carbon credit projects in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change.
