Cambodia's Volunteer Medical Teams Provide Free Healthcare to Over 500,000

Dr. Akfisandith Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and President of the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Volunteer Medical Team Association, along with his wife, Ke Sophea, expressed their profound admiration for the dedicated efforts of the nearly 400 volunteer medics who are continuing their mission to examine and treat citizens free of charge. This commendation was made during the free medical examination and treatment event for citizens in Swai Antor district, Prey Veng province, on July 26, 2026, which was presided over by Dr. Akfisandith and his wife. Dr. Akfisandith Sar Sokha stated that since the establishment of the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Volunteer Medical Team, the team has provided free medical treatment to over 530,000 citizens. He emphasized that these achievements would not have been possible without the participation of the Prey Veng provincial administration, the Unified Command, hospital directors, and especially the "soldiers in white," who have voluntarily contributed their physical and mental strength without seeking remuneration. These actions are of significant importance for the benefit of the nation and society, particularly in promoting the health and well-being of the people. Dr. Seng Banhnyarith, Director of the Prey Veng Provincial Department of Health, reported that 380 medical personnel and volunteer doctors from the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Volunteer Medical Team were present to examine and treat citizens in Swai Antor district on the morning of the event. The medical team's services included general examinations and treatments, health education, and specialized care for mental health, pediatrics, gynecology, hemorrhoids, lung diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory illnesses, digestive tract diseases, skin conditions, parasitic infections, anemia, joint pain, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, malaria, dengue fever, and eye diseases (including eye examinations and distribution of glasses). Additionally, dental health, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, ear, nose, and throat conditions, kidney disease, ultrasound examinations, electrocardiograms, laboratory analysis (blood tests), minor surgeries, and wound treatment were provided. The Director of the Provincial Department of Health added that in the first half of 2026, the volunteer medical teams conducted a total of 537,016 consultations. Furthermore, in 2025, two health centers in the province participated in the national competition for exemplary public service units. As a result, on June 29, 2026, the Preah Pnov Health Center in Pearang Operational District secured the third-place award as a national exemplary health center. It is recalled that the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Volunteer Medical Team has previously conducted 19 free medical outreach missions in 12 districts and municipalities, including Prey Veng City, Peam Chor, Sithor Kandal, Pearang, Kanchai Meas, Peam Rork, Me Sang, Preah Sdech, Kampong Trabaek, Pou Rieng, and Ba Phnum, treating a total of 68,087 citizens, of whom 43,415 were women.
