Hanoi House Fire: Three Rescued, Electric Bike Suspected Cause

A fire broke out early on September 2nd in a three-story house located in Doi Nhan alley, Ngoc Ha ward, Hanoi, leading to the safe rescue of three individuals. Police guided the residents to escape through the rooftop terrace to an adjacent property. The blaze ignited around 1:25 AM in the approximately 55 square meter house. The fire originated near the first-floor entrance, where two gasoline motorcycles and an electric bike were kept. The presence of gasoline, plastic, and electric bike batteries caused the fire to spread rapidly, emitting toxic smoke and blocking the sole exit. Upon receiving the report, the No. 8 Firefighting and Rescue Unit (Lieu Giai detachment), situated 400 meters away, along with the No. 14 Unit (Thuy Khue detachment), dispatched four specialized vehicles and 23 officers and firefighters. Upon arrival, the house was engulfed in black smoke. Firefighters initiated water suppression from the first-floor entrance while simultaneously breaking down the lock. A reconnaissance team used ladders to reach the third floor, breaking glass to ventilate smoke and search for trapped individuals. Within approximately 10 minutes of engagement, police successfully guided three people to safety via the rooftop terrace to the neighboring house. The fire was extinguished by 2:20 AM. There were no human casualties. The fire affected an area of about 25 square meters on the first floor. The cause is currently under investigation, with preliminary security camera footage suggesting an incident involving sparks from an electric bike as the ignition source. Separately, on August 30th, firefighting and rescue teams successfully saved three people trapped in a residential fire in Nguyen Khang alley, Cau Giay ward.
