Indonesia's Special Prosecutor Post Remains Vacant Amid Presidential Appointment Delay

The post of Special Prosecutor for Special Crimes (Jaksa Agung Muda Pidana Khusus, Jampidsus) in Indonesia remains vacant following the resignation of its predecessor, Febrie Adriansyah. The appointment process stipulates that the President appoints the Jampidsus based on a recommendation from the Attorney General. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated on July 13th that no recommendation for a successor to the Jampidsus has been submitted to the President to date. "The mechanism is that the Jampidsus position is appointed and determined by the President through a Presidential Decree (Keppres) based on a proposal from the Attorney General, which we have not yet received," Hadi explained. According to Hadi, Febrie's resignation from the Jampidsus position was personal, and therefore, no Presidential Decree was issued for his resignation. A Presidential Decree will only be issued in the context of appointing a new Jampidsus. Previously, former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah was identified as a suspect by the National Police's Directorate of Special Crimes (Kortas Tipidkor Polri) in cases of alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU), reportedly linked to the handling of the PT Asabri corruption case and other matters. Head of Kortas Tipidkor Polri, Inspector General Pol Totok Suharyanto, announced on July 11th that Febrie was named a suspect after a series of investigations, evidence collection, and hearings. Investigators had examined 15 witnesses and two experts, conducted searches at several locations, and held case reviews before determining his legal status. Febrie is suspected of violating provisions of the Anti-Corruption Law and the Money Laundering Law (TPPU), as well as other relevant articles in the Criminal Code (KUHP). In addition to Febrie, a private individual with the initials DR has also been named a suspect for alleged money laundering offenses.
