Pailin Province Inspects Maternal Health Services to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality with Australian Support

Pailin Province Governor, Ms. Bañ Sreymom, on September 17, led a delegation of specialized officials to inspect the provision of maternal health services at the Phnom Preal Health Center, located in Phnom Preal village, Stueng Trang commune, Salakrau district, Pailin province. This inspection was conducted under the auspices of the Australian-supported organization 'Every Mum,' aiming to reduce and eliminate maternal and infant mortality during pregnancy and childbirth. Governor Bañ Sreymom highly praised and appreciated the support from 'Every Mum' for its contributions to the health sector in Pailin province, particularly in reducing preventable maternal and infant deaths. She affirmed the provincial administration's full commitment to collaborating on all projects to ensure the well-being and effectiveness of both mothers and infants. The Governor highlighted that the Cambodian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet has prioritized 'Improving the Welfare and Health of the People' as one of the five key priorities of the 'Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I' (People, Platform, Pipeline, Payment, and Partnership). This strategy includes measures such as expanding universal health coverage, strengthening the quality of local health services, developing medical infrastructure and technology, and preventing both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Furthermore, Governor Bañ Sreymom urged and reminded healthcare operators (doctors, midwives, and health personnel) at referral hospitals and health centers to uphold professional ethics and conduct, prioritize patient safety, and continuously enhance their skills and knowledge in medical techniques. This is to respond to evolving health challenges and maintain a clean, green, and hygienic environment, providing comfort to patients and their relatives. 'Every Mum' is a charitable organization from Australia with over 25 years of active experience in Cambodia. Its global mission is to reduce and eliminate maternal and infant mortality. The organization's core activities include training and capacity building for midwives and community health workers, providing essential medical equipment, particularly ultrasound machines, to remote health centers, and conducting community education campaigns to encourage pregnant women to seek regular antenatal care at local health centers.
