President Jokowi Arrives in Palue Island, NTT, to Directly Distribute Aid to Earthquake Victims

President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived in Palue Island, Sikka Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), on Wednesday afternoon (16/9/2026). Jokowi's arrival aimed to directly hand over aid to residents affected by the earthquake in August 2026. Jokowi landed at Uwa Port, Palue Island, around 18:45 WITA. The former President was directly welcomed by local adat leaders through a procession of traditional dances and the presentation of Palue's distinctive woven fabric. The enthusiasm of the residents and evacuees was palpable upon welcoming Jokowi's presence at the location. "Thank you for coming here, Mr. President. We are grateful that you came with such love. We are thankful that you arrived in good health and safety," said Tone Langga Customary Head, Herman Yosef Soru, at the welcoming site. During this working visit, Jokowi was accompanied by his youngest son and Chairman of the DPP PSI, Kaesang Pangarep, Secretary of the DPP PSI Supervisory Board, Grace Natalie, and Sikka Regent, Juventus Prima Yoris Kago. While on Palue Island, Jokowi is scheduled to symbolically hand over logistic aid packages and interact directly with earthquake victims in the evacuation areas. Sikka Regent Juventus Prima Yoris Kago stated that during his time in Palue, Jokowi is scheduled to inspect several earthquake-affected locations. The former Mayor of Solo is also said to meet with the community at the evacuation post in Rokirole Village, Palue District. At this location, Jokowi will symbolically hand over aid to the evacuees. Furthermore, the former number one person is also scheduled to spend the night with the displaced residents in Palue. "Mr. Jokowi wants to see the community's life more closely after the earthquake, as well as listen directly to the needs of the residents who are still affected by the disaster," explained Juventus. In addition to Rokirole Village, Jokowi is also scheduled to visit the Parish Church of Lei in Tuanggeo Village to directly observe the condition of the church building damaged by the earthquake.
