Pemalang Regent Arrested in Jakarta Among 21 Nabbed in Corruption Sweep

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Indonesia has arrested the Regent of Pemalang, Anom Widiyantoro, on corruption charges. He was apprehended in Jakarta. According to the KPK, a total of 21 people were arrested in this operation. Of these, 15 were secured in Pemalang, five in Jakarta, and one in Purworejo. A KPK spokesperson stated that 12 of the 21 individuals are undergoing further investigation at the KPK headquarters (Gedung Merah Putih), including the five arrested in Jakarta. The Regent arrived at the KPK headquarters last night and is undergoing intensive questioning. The remaining seven individuals (six from Pemalang and one from Purworejo) are expected to arrive at the KPK headquarters today. The KPK has 1x24 hours, as stipulated by the Criminal Procedure Code, to determine the legal status of Regent Anom Widiyantoro. This arrest marks the 18th operation conducted by the KPK in 2026. The first operation of the year saw eight arrests between January 9-10. The current case is related to alleged bribery within tax investigations at the Madya Jakarta Utara Tax Service Office under the Directorate General of Taxes (Ditjen Pajak) of the Ministry of Finance, covering the period of 2021-2026. Previous KPK operations this year have also targeted the Mayor of Madiun, the Regent of Pati, the Head of the Banjarmasin Tax Service Office in South Kalimantan, a former Director of Investigation and Enforcement at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and judges from the Depok District Court.
