Cambodia Explores Meteorological and Water Resource Technologies in Finland, Seeks Vaisala Collaboration

On the morning of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, during an official visit to the Republic of Finland, His Excellency Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a high-level delegation from the Ministry on a visit to the headquarters of Vaisala Company in Helsinki. His Excellency the Minister and the delegation held discussions with Mr. Panu Partanen, Vice President of Vaisala Company responsible for Climate, Energy, and Environment, to understand the technologies and experiences in producing radar systems. They also visited the assembly factory for the company's hydrological-meteorological equipment and radars. His Excellency the Minister informed the leadership of Vaisala Company about Cambodia's commitment to modernizing its meteorological and hydrological services to strengthen weather forecasting, reduce disaster risks, manage water resources, and enhance climate resilience. He emphasized that the current visit provides an excellent opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of Vaisala's technologies, production standards, quality assurance, and long-term operational support. Particularly, he highlighted the importance of learning from international experiences and how the company's technologies can contribute to strengthening national meteorological services. His Excellency the Minister welcomed and encouraged the company to participate in future development initiatives through a transparent and competitive procurement process. This process will also include knowledge sharing, technology transfer, capacity building, and long-term technical support, which are crucial for strengthening Cambodia's institutional capacity and ensuring the sustainability of investments. It is noteworthy that Vaisala Company was established in 1936, has a total of over 1,900 employees, and maintains more than 30 offices worldwide.
