500 Fishers in Ilocos Sur Receive P10,000 Livelihood Aid

Five hundred fishers from 13 barangays in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, received P10,000 each in additional livelihood capital from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 (DSWD FO 1) on Monday, Sept. 14. The assistance was provided through the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), aiming to strengthen fishing-related enterprises and improve the living standards of the fisherfolk. The SLP is a program that provides income-generating opportunities to poor and vulnerable individuals, supporting their economic independence. The funds are expected to be used for purchasing fishing gear, repairing boats, or starting new fishing-related ventures. Ilocos Sur is one of the Philippines' key fishing regions, with many local communities relying on fishing for their livelihood.
