Cambodia Launches Tree Planting Campaign to Boost Green Cover and Enhance Environmental Aesthetics

The initiative focuses on planting rare tree species to promote environmental protection and pass on natural heritage to future generations.
Sai Kimlom, District Governor of Stung Saros District, Kampong Thom Province, has called on the youth and residents to join hands in planting trees to increase green cover and enhance environmental aesthetics. This call was made during a tree planting campaign ceremony held on the morning of July 16, 2026, along the road leading to Rasmey Saophoan High School in Traa Commune, Stung Saros District, Kampong Thom Province. The District Governor emphasized that planting trees aims to foster a love for nature, a commitment to environmental protection, and green development, as trees are the source of life and an invaluable natural shield. He further stated that planting precious trees such as Knhong, Thlong, Beng, and Neang Nuon not only aids in environmental protection and climate change mitigation but also leaves behind a valuable natural heritage for future generations. "Planting one sapling is equivalent to creating one natural lung for our community. Therefore, all citizens and youth are urged to participate in planting trees at their homes, schools, and public places, and more importantly, to collectively care for and protect these saplings so they grow well," he urged. School principals, teachers, and many students expressed their joy and actively participated in planting saplings alongside the leadership. The participants expressed their deepest gratitude to Sai Kimlom, the District Governor, for his constant attention to environmental issues and for consistently inspiring and leading sanitation and tree-planting activities. Focusing on the care of precious trees encourages the conservation and reforestation of rare species facing extinction and facilitates support, both materially and spiritually, to ensure schools have a good learning environment, foster friendship, and are green.
