Cambodia Authorities Demolish Structures Encroaching on Public Road

In Cambodia's Kampong Speu province, local authorities have successfully removed fences that were illegally constructed on a public road. This action was taken following reports from residents and widespread dissemination on social media. The incident occurred in Sen Dei commune, Oul Rung Chek village, Samrong Tong district, where a landowner, identified as Mom Sambath, 47, had erected fences encroaching onto the public red earth road without permission. This encroachment was flagged for impacting road usage and infringing on the rights of other residents. Mut Pon, the district governor of Samrong Tong, along with relevant technical officials, conducted an on-site inspection. They confirmed that a barbed-wire fence had extended approximately one meter onto the road's land for a length of 42 meters. Additionally, a brick fence was found to have encroached onto the road in five separate locations. Authorities ordered the removal of the infringing sections, completing the rectification of the illegal construction under the guidance of the Kampong Speu provincial administration. This case highlights the role of administration in protecting public spaces and ensuring residents' rights. Authorities have indicated a firm stance against similar illegal activities in the future.
