Sun Group to build 50,000 social housing units in Phu Quoc

Sun Group has officially broken ground on a massive social housing and rental property project in the An Thoi urban area of Phu Quoc Island. The initiative, which includes the development of 50,000 housing units and supporting infrastructure, represents a total investment of VND 40 trillion (approximately $1.6 billion). The project is designed to bolster urban and tourism infrastructure in Phu Quoc, a key international hub for tourism, services, and marine economy, ahead of the 2027 APEC Summit. It specifically aims to address the housing needs of the local workforce. Located at the southern gateway of Phu Quoc, adjacent to DT 975 road and connected to Hoang Hon Town, the complex will span 55 hectares. The master plan emphasizes green corridors running north-south and east-west. The development will feature a variety of social housing and rental units, built to "Singaporean standards." Sun Group representatives indicated that the buildings will be designed with increased height to optimize land use and incorporate garden spaces. The complex is planned to be within a 15-minute walk of key public facilities. A central feature of the project is a continuous landscape system integrating water bodies, tropical greenery, and public spaces. These elements are intended to act as natural filters, improving the microclimate and promoting residents' health and well-being. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of Sun Group, highlighted the company's commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility. He stated that the social housing project is part of the group's efforts to support local authorities in realizing the Party and State's policies on social security and improving citizens' quality of life. "Modern urban development thinking is only truly correct when it places people at the center," Truong remarked. "The prosperity of a land is measured not only by the scale of its constructions but by the peace and stability within each home. With stable housing, people can work and contribute with peace of mind. This is also the foundation for attracting and retaining high-quality human resources and forming a modern, civilized resident community for Phu Quoc." This development is also a crucial component of the infrastructure build-up for APEC 2027. Sun Group has already completed several key projects, including the opening of Sun Hospital in April and the 3,300-meter runway at Phu Quoc International Airport within eight months. The APEC Convention and Exhibition Center is nearing completion, and an 18km LRT line connecting the airport to the APEC site is set to begin track installation. The social housing project is expected to meet the housing demands of workers and families affected by urban development, while also increasing the housing supply to match the rapid growth of tourism, services, and infrastructure in the southern part of the island.
