Cambodia to Become Difficult Territory for Online Scammers, Premier Tells Bloomberg

Prime Minister Hun Manet has declared that Cambodia will become a territory that is "not easy" for online scammers, underscoring the government's strong commitment. This was stated in an interview with Bloomberg, scheduled to air on the morning of July 24. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government has implemented a series of measures to address the issue of online scams based in Cambodia. These measures include the crackdown on scamming organizations and the arrest of several high-ranking officials allegedly involved in these activities. Investigations are ongoing. "We will make Cambodia a territory that is not easy and not comfortable to live in for online scammers, and this is our commitment. And we will continue to do so," the Prime Minister stated. Furthermore, Cambodia plans to host an international conference on combating online scams, with participation expected from Chinese authorities and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The Prime Minister described this as cooperation to resolve a common problem that transcends geopolitical boundaries. The planned hosting of this international conference demonstrates the Cambodian government's strong will to fight against this type of crime. The government is taking decisive action to eradicate this problem, which has plagued Cambodia for many years. According to reports, from July 2025 to the end of May 2026, Cambodian authorities have cracked down on over 400 online scam cases, revoked the licenses of 25 online casinos, and sent more than 1,400 suspects to court in 143 cases.
