Thai Women's Football Eliminated from Asian Games 2026 Group Stage; Coach Alfred Points Out Challenges

The Thai women's national football team has been eliminated from the Asian Games 2026 after drawing 0-0 with Vietnam in their final group stage match. This result placed Thailand at the bottom of Group E with one point. Following the match, head coach Netipong Srithong-in, widely known as Alfred, spoke about the team's performance and future prospects in a post-match interview. Reflecting on the game against Vietnam, Alfred stated, "It's always a tough match against Vietnam, and today was no different. They played without pressure." He identified the primary reason for the defeat as a lack of finishing power, saying, "I never use excuses like 'we were unlucky.' There's no such thing as bad luck. We just didn't score. It's purely a matter of finishing. We had many clear chances, but we couldn't convert them. That's football." Despite the outcome, Alfred expressed a positive outlook on the experience gained during the tournament. "We had a very good opportunity to play against Japan, which gave us valuable lessons and good information on how to improve. After that, we faced two other teams ranked higher than us, and we performed quite well. We conceded a goal late in the game against Taiwan from a very good shot. So, for me, it was a very good experience, and we did pretty well after the Japan match. Overall, it was okay for us," he commented. He emphasized that the valuable experience gained from competing against stronger nations will be instrumental in the team's future development. The Thai women's national team is scheduled to return to Thailand, arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport around 9:30 PM on September 22nd (local time).
