The 2026 National Youth Roller Sports Championship officially commenced on September 12th at the Xuan Hong Park Community Complex in Tay Ninh province. The event has brought together 170 young athletes from 14 provinces, cities, and units across the country, competing over two days. This championship is a significant event within the national Roller Sports competition system, providing a crucial platform for young athletes to hone their skills and elevate their performance. Participants represent various regions including Bac Ninh, Can Tho, People's Police, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Gia Lai, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Khanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City, and the host, Tay Ninh. The competition features three main disciplines: Speed Roller Skating, Artistic Roller Skating, and Skateboarding, with a total of 50 events for both male and female athletes across multiple age groups. Speed Roller Skating boasts the largest number of events, with 32 categories including various distances (100m to 3,000m), relays, and divisions for Novice, Junior, and Senior athletes. Artistic Roller Skating includes 14 events such as Classic Slalom, Battle Slalom, Battle Slide, and Speed Slalom, demanding excellent body control, precise technique, speed, creativity, and competitive spirit. Skateboarding events comprise four categories: Game of Skate (male and female) and Street (male and female), adding further diversity. Beyond fostering athletic achievement, the championship serves as an opportunity for local authorities and sports units to evaluate the effectiveness of their youth training and coaching programs. The technical staff will closely monitor athletes' techniques, tactics, physical condition, and mental fortitude to identify promising talents for potential selection into the national youth squads. Roller Sports, characterized by its blend of speed, strength, technique, and body control, is increasingly attracting young people, contributing to the gradual establishment of a widespread training and competition system. Maintaining a national-level youth championship is considered a vital foundation for nurturing the next generation of athletes, aiming to enhance Vietnam's Roller Sports performance on regional, continental, and international stages. Following two days of intense competition, the organizing committee will award gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with certificates of recognition, to the top three individuals in each event. Consolation prizes will also be given to fourth-place finishers. Source: Nhan Dan
