Soldier Sacrifices While Rescuing Comrade During Defense Project

Senior Private Cao Tuan Anh, a soldier serving with the 3rd Military Region, tragically lost his life after sustaining severe injuries while rescuing a comrade from a landslide during a defense construction project on Bach Long Vi Island. His heroic act has been widely recognized by the Vietnam People's Army and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. The incident occurred on the morning of August 7, as soldiers were engaged in defense-related construction on the island. When Private Nguyen Binh Nguyen was found in a perilous position due to a sudden landslide, Senior Private Tuan Anh immediately pushed him to safety but was himself caught in the debris and critically wounded. Both soldiers were subsequently evacuated from the site and received emergency treatment at the Bach Long Vi Island Medical Center. Despite efforts, Senior Private Tuan Anh succumbed to his injuries. Private Nguyen is currently conscious and under continued medical observation. In recognition of his bravery, the Hai Phong City Military Command has posthumously promoted Senior Private Tuan Anh to the rank of Sergeant. The Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has also awarded him a posthumous commendation for his life-saving act in a dangerous situation. Born on October 21, 2006, Senior Private Tuan Anh enlisted in February 2025 and had been admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam three months prior to his death. The Ministry of National Defense has stated that his actions exemplify the spirit of camaraderie, responsibility, and the noble qualities of a soldier, contributing to the image of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" in the new era. This event highlights the dedication and self-sacrificing spirit prevalent within the Vietnamese military.
