Vietnam Investigates Caregiver for Child Abuse After Viral Videos

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, authorities have launched an investigation following the spread of videos on social media allegedly showing a caregiver physically abusing young children. The incident has caused significant public outcry. According to reports, the videos, shared on platforms like TikTok and Facebook, depict a woman, identified as a caregiver, repeatedly striking two infants born in 2024 with a rubber band and her hands. The circulation of these clips has ignited widespread anger among the public. Ho Chi Minh City Police promptly initiated a probe to identify the location of the incident and confirmed it occurred at the La Xanh Kindergarten in Thuan Giao ward. Police summoned relevant individuals for questioning, including Trieu Thi Tam, born in 1971, the caregiver seen in the viral clips. During police interrogation, Tam reportedly admitted to the abusive acts captured in the videos. C.C.N., born in 1997, who is alleged to have filmed and posted the clips, was also questioned and submitted remaining video data to aid the investigation. Authorities are currently gathering and consolidating further evidence to ensure strict legal action is taken in accordance with the law. The Ho Chi Minh City Police have strongly urged kindergartens, childcare facilities, and individuals directly involved in child care to strictly adhere to legal provisions, ensure a safe and healthy educational environment, and respect and protect children's rights. They emphasized that any form of child abuse or violation will be severely punished by law. This case highlights the critical importance of safety management in childcare facilities and the protection of children's rights in Vietnam.
