The case came to light when the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Gendarmerie arrested Jess Songnai on August 4 at Poipet High School, based on a complaint filed by a 16-year-old minor residing in Poipet city. The charges brought against the suspect fall under Article 246 of the Penal Code for "sexual abuse," with a potential sentence of at least five years imprisonment if found guilty. Currently, Jess Songnai is being held in temporary detention at the provincial prison awaiting trial.
