The Rice Export Zone, or REZ, project will help improve farmers' incomes while increasing Myanmar's rice exports. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Ye Tint Tun made the remarks while responding to a question from Dr. Nay Lin of Hmawby Constituency during the Pyithu Hluttaw session on Thursday. According to the Deputy Minister, the REZ project is a public-private partnership between the government and the Myanmar Rice Federation. The project aims to produce high-quality rice that meets international food safety standards, improve traceability, and make Myanmar's rice more competitive in global markets. Under the project, farmers will receive financial support of up to 750,000 kyats per acre. This includes funding from rice exporters, the State Economic Promotion Fund, and loans from the Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank. Farmers taking part in the project will also have access to quality seeds, lower-cost fertilizers, technical support, and better prices for their harvests. They will be able to repay their loans with the rice they produce.
