Cambodia's Ministry of Health Directs Improvement of Healthcare Service Quality for Citizen Well-being
Cambodia's Minister of Health, Prof. Chheang Ra, has directed the enhancement of healthcare service quality and efficiency, prioritizing citizen health and well-being. Emphasis was placed on human resource development, licensing, continuous professional development, and strengthening the safety management of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.
Minister of Health, Prof. Chheang Ra, stated that for the health and well-being of the citizens, quality is a crucial factor that cannot be overlooked. Healthcare services must ensure continuity, laws must be enforced transparently, and leaders must have the courage to make decisions and take responsibility. He made these remarks while leading a meeting with leaders and technical officials to further promote quality and efficiency in the health sector on the afternoon of September 17, 2026, at the Ministry of Health headquarters. On this occasion, the Minister of Health instructed all levels of leadership to continue to pay attention and take responsibility for their respective duties to produce results for the benefit of public health. Prof. Chheang Ra highlighted the activities to be implemented to achieve the government's policies, focusing on ensuring the quality of human resources in healthcare, from training, licensing, defining the scope of professional practice, continuous professional development, and regular competency assessments to ensure that health professionals have appropriate competencies and qualifications. Responsible leaders must continue to promote the assurance of 24-hour healthcare services, the placement of capable resources in areas of need, the strengthening of quality and safety management systems for medicines, medical equipment, and cosmetics, from production and import, registration, storage, distribution, to post-market surveillance. He also stressed strengthening health training based on capacity and clear standard assessments. Prof. Chheang Ra also instructed to continue improving work procedures to be clearer and more efficient, strengthening the implementation of laws in accordance with legal standards, and leadership responsibility in decision-making to ensure that all activities in the health sector are carried out with quality and safety as the top priority for the citizens.
