Cambodia Urges Crackdown on Workplace Harassment, Labor Ministry Calls for Cooperation

The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training organized a training session aimed at raising awareness about the prevention and suppression of violence and harassment in the workplace. The event, held from September 1st to 4th, 2026, at the Textile, Apparel, Footwear, and Travel Goods Association of Cambodia (TAFTAC), saw the participation of representatives from approximately 3900 enterprises, companies, and factories. Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguy Rith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, emphasized the importance of disseminating and enhancing understanding of rights and obligations among all stakeholders. He specifically urged administrative personnel, translators, human resource managers, production chiefs, and company leaders to actively participate in preventing and curbing inappropriate behavior and disrespectful language in the workplace. Mr. Rith stated that the prevention and suppression of these activities must be carried out in accordance with the national legal framework and international labor standards. The focus is on protecting everyone in the world of work from physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence, as well as gender-based violence and harassment. He noted that although these issues have been significantly reduced, some cases continue to occur and can lead to labor disputes, strikes, or protests, impacting professional relationships, production, and the reputation of enterprises. In this regard, he urged all parties to cooperate with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to jointly promote better working conditions and environments, transforming enterprises into "peaceful communities." Furthermore, the Secretary of State encouraged all enterprise owners, directors, and factory managers to instruct their management teams and production chiefs, especially those who work directly with employees, to uphold the respect for labor rights, dignity, and human value. He strictly prohibited and called for the prevention of all forms of insults, threats, violence, and harassment in the workplace. Concurrently, the Ministry appealed to all employees to adhere to labor discipline, fulfill their duties, respect the rights and dignity of others, and report any inappropriate behavior or language they witness or experience at work to labor inspectors or competent authorities. He instructed labor inspectors to continue strengthening inspections and taking firm measures based on the principles of justice, transparency, and impartiality.
