PM Anutin Responds to Music Criticism with ABBA Song and Classic Thai Verse

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has responded to criticism regarding his public singing appearances by sharing ABBA’s hit song “Thank You For The Music” along with a famous Thai verse from King Rama VI. The prime minister posted the ABBA song on his personal Facebook account on Tuesday, following online debate over his singing of the Chinese song “Tian Mi Mi” (Sweet Honey) during his official visit to China. Alongside the ABBA track, the prime minister shared the lines: “Those who have no music in their hearts Are truly strange and peculiar people.” This verse, widely recognized by Thai audiences, originates from a poem by King Rama VI and is often interpreted as highlighting music’s role in enriching human emotions and humanity. Anutin’s post comes amid criticism that he frequently engages in musical performances at official and public gatherings. Some critics have questioned the timing of such appearances given the various domestic issues Thailand is currently facing. The prime minister has previously been seen performing music at official and public events, including during his overseas engagements.
