This incident marks one of the deadliest small plane crashes in France. Among the deceased were 5 skydiving instructors, 5 trainees, and 1 pilot, said Yves Séguy, prefect of Meurthe-et-Moselle in eastern France. He also added at a press conference that no pedestrians or bystanders were among the victims. The aircraft, registered in Germany, reportedly crashed in a grassy area near the runway of Nancy-Essey Airport, close to a residential area and two roads. The cause of the accident is not immediately known. Medical and psychological support teams are providing care to the families of the deceased and other witnesses who have arrived at the airport. Amory Lacourt, deputy prosecutor of Nancy in eastern France, stated that technical investigations into the incident have begun. Police have urged the public via the social media platform X to refrain from approaching the airport vicinity to ensure smooth rescue operations.
