DA opens P74-M rice processing facility in Cabanatuan

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has opened a new P74.4-million rice processing facility in Cabanatuan to improve postharvest processing in Nueva Ecija, the country’s top rice-producing province. The facility, inaugurated on Thursday, includes a multi-stage rice mill that can process 4 to 5 tons per hour, along with three recirculating dryers, each with a capacity of 5 tons. This initiative aims to boost the efficiency of rice processing and reduce losses incurred after harvest. By upgrading postharvest facilities, the DA seeks to enhance the quality of locally produced rice, making it more competitive in both domestic and international markets. Nueva Ecija is renowned as the "Rice Granary of the Philippines," consistently contributing a significant portion of the nation's rice supply. Investments in modern processing technologies are crucial for supporting the livelihoods of the province's farmers and ensuring a stable food supply for the country.
