Phnom Penh Municipal Police have issued a statement addressing allegations circulating on social media that a man was arrested without proper legal procedures. According to reports, on September 6, 2026, at approximately 5:30 PM, officers from the Phnom Penh Municipal Police's Traffic Office apprehended Mr. Sraoh Tavon, a 33-year-old Cambodian national, in front of a barbershop located at House No. 32, Street 342, Sangkat Chrang Chamres 1, Khan Russey Keo. This action was based on summons number 383.AY.B issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court Prosecutor's Office, for questioning regarding his alleged involvement in a traffic accident that caused injuries to others and his subsequent evasion of the scene. During the arrest, a commotion arose as the suspect's family members protested, claiming the legal procedures were not followed. Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of traffic police arrived at the scene. With guarantees from the suspect's lawyer and family, Mr. Tavon was temporarily allowed to return home. With the permission of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, Mr. Sraoh Tavon is scheduled to report to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police on September 7, 2026, for questioning and to undergo further legal proceedings. The incident stems from a traffic accident that occurred on the afternoon of August 17, 2026, at the intersection of Street 528 and Street 285, Sangkat Boeung Kauk 1, Khan Toul Kork, which reportedly resulted in injuries, including a broken arm, to a teenage girl riding a motorcycle.
