LTO Suspends Licenses of Drivers for Obstructing Firetrucks in Makati

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver's licenses of two motorists in Makati for obstructing firetrucks, signaling a stricter stance against hindering emergency vehicle operations. The suspensions were based on incidents where double-parked vehicles blocked firetrucks responding to residential fires in Barangay Bangkal and Guadalupe Nuevo. Video evidence captured the vehicles impeding the path of the emergency vehicles. The driver involved in the Barangay Bangkal incident had their license suspended for three months, while the other in Guadalupe Nuevo faces a one-year suspension. LTO chief Markus Lacanilao emphasized the critical nature of yielding to emergency vehicles, stating, "Motorists should yield to emergency vehicles, especially responding firetrucks. Every second counts, as lives may hang in the balance during these responses." This action reflects a growing demand for stricter enforcement against traffic obstruction, particularly in urban areas where timely emergency response is crucial for minimizing damage and saving lives.
