Vietnam Seeks Deeper AI Cooperation with China's Guangxi

During his visit to China and Guangxi in April, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President To Lam expressed a desire to further expand cooperation between Vietnam, particularly border localities, and Guangxi in areas including AI. This move suggests a deepening of cooperation between Vietnam and China, especially in the field of AI. Previous reports have also highlighted the promotion of cross-border tourism between Vietnam and China utilizing AI, and the potential for AI applications in the automotive industry, indicating an expanding scope of technological collaboration between the two countries. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to pursue economic growth while aiming to upgrade its industries through the adoption of advanced technologies. China is one of the world's leading countries in AI technology, and cooperation with the geographically proximate Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region could offer Vietnam opportunities for technology transfer and joint development. Cross-border economic exchanges, in particular, are a crucial element in the relationship between the two nations, and the introduction of AI technology has the potential to enhance efficiency and create new services across various sectors, including logistics, tourism, and even public security. However, as Vietnam advances technological cooperation with China, it must also carefully consider the balance with domestic industrial development, the risks of technological dependency, and geopolitical implications. Vietnam maintains a delicate foreign policy of benefiting economically from its relationship with China while simultaneously safeguarding its national sovereignty and security.
