Calabarzon Cleanup Yields Over 35 Tons of Coastal Waste

LUCENA CITY — A total of 35,105 kilograms of waste were collected along the shorelines of the Calabarzon region during activities marking this year’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC). According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the region, this year’s ICC, themed “Clean Seas for Resilient Communities,” was a tremendous success for the environment, thanks to the participation of numerous volunteers. The cleanup activities aim to protect the marine environment and enhance the resilience of communities against climate change and other environmental challenges. Calabarzon, located east of Metro Manila, is known for its rich coastlines and diverse ecosystems. However, marine pollution, particularly plastic waste, poses a significant threat to its environment. The DENR expressed heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers for their dedicated efforts, which contributed significantly to improving the local environment. The department aims to continue such initiatives to achieve a sustainable marine environment.
