Long Thanh International Airport: Infrastructure Development Accelerates Towards Opening

Infrastructure development to connect Ho Chi Minh City with the upcoming Long Thanh International Airport is rapidly progressing in southern Vietnam. The Long Thanh International Airport, aiming for trial operation and commercial khai thác ( khai thác means 'development' or 'utilization' in Vietnamese) by the end of 2026, is currently in its final stages. To maximize the potential of this airport, which will be one of Vietnam's largest international gateways, investments in several high-priority transportation infrastructure projects connecting it from Ho Chi Minh City are being accelerated. Specifically, the "Thủ Thiêm-Long Thành" line, connecting the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh Airport, is a key project. In Dong Nai province, three major transportation projects connecting to the airport have commenced construction. Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City has proposed bus routes to enhance connectivity with the airport. These infrastructure developments aim to synchronize the transportation network between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh Airport, ensuring smooth access. The government is prioritizing the allocation of funds for these crucial connecting projects. This acceleration of infrastructure development is a vital part of Vietnam's economic growth strategy, particularly strengthening the airport's role as a hub for the southern economic region. The Vietnamese government, under its one-party system, prioritizes economic development and views large-scale infrastructure projects as crucial tools for attracting domestic and foreign investment and establishing the nation as a hub for international logistics and passenger traffic. Especially for Vietnam, which has strong economic ties with China, such infrastructure development has the potential to contribute to supply chain diversification and the revitalization of the regional economy.
