Cambodia Braces for Three Days of Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has issued a notification stating that several provinces and the capital city are expected to experience rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds for three days, from August 9th to August 11th, 2026. This weather phenomenon is anticipated to cover 40% to 60% of the affected land areas. According to the ministry's announcement, these weather conditions are influenced by Tropical Storm Chan-hom (T2615) and Typhoon Dolphin (T2613), which are exerting influence on the southwest monsoon winds blowing over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River Basin, the Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia is not situated directly in the path of these two storms. The ministry further elaborated that these weather conditions will impact specific regions within the Kingdom of Cambodia over the three-day period: 1. Lowland Areas: The average minimum temperature will be 25°C, and the average maximum temperature will be 35°C. Winds blowing from the southwest and northwest will have an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital city may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 40% of their land area. 2. Highland Areas: The average minimum temperature will be 24°C, and the average maximum temperature will be 34°C. Winds blowing from the southwest and west will have an average speed of 4 meters per second. Provinces including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratié, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and the Phnom Kravanh mountain range may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 60% of their land area. 3. Coastal Areas: The average minimum temperature will be 25°C, and the average maximum temperature will be 35°C. Winds blowing from the southwest and southeast will have an average speed of 2 meters per second. Provinces such as Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain area may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 70% of their land area. Sea waves are expected to have an average height of 0.50 meters and a maximum average height of 1.70 meters. The public is urged to take note of this information.
