Mekong, September 15 Thant Zin Htun, the company commander of the No. 4 Police Training School (Taung Lel Lone) in Shwe Nyaung town, Taunggyi Township, southern Shan State, abused his authority as company commander and sexually assaulted the wife of a trainee, according to sources close to the training school. When the trainee's wife visited her husband, who was attending training, Thant Zin Htun threatened her, saying that as company commander, he could secure a good position for the trainee or send him to a bad place, and then unjustly took sexual favors from the woman, it is reported. It is also said that the woman was rented a house in a village near the training school until the training was completed and was treated as he pleased. When the trainee learned of this and caused trouble, he was threatened and paid compensation, it is reported. Thant Zin Htun, who engages in such corrupt practices, is also addicted to gambling and frequently visits poker and gin rummy games daily, extorting the necessary funds for his gambling by imposing various unjustified charges on the trainees' salaries, it is said. Currently, despite being a police officer himself, he is driving a car without a license and is traveling to gambling dens in that car, it is said. Many suggest that due to corrupt officials like him, the perception of other police officers should not be tarnished, and that corrupt practices should be cleared for the reputation of the force, as there are also honest members who help and protect the public.
