Cambodia Praises Displaced Citizens for Land Utilization to Improve Livelihoods

More than 3,000 displaced families residing in the Rong Cham village, Srok Svay Chek, Banteay Meanchey province, have successfully transformed idle land surrounding their homes into thriving vegetable and fruit farms, serving as an exemplary model for family-based agriculture. This resilience and commitment to opportunity, regardless of their living conditions, were highly praised. His Excellency Kun Kim, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-President of the National Committee for Disaster Management, lauded these commendable efforts during his visit on August 2, 2026. The visit followed his inspection and intervention for rice crop rescue irrigation for farmers. He emphasized that direct visits to the displaced communities are crucial for understanding their needs, identifying challenges, and providing timely solutions. After inspecting the homes and various crops cultivated, including cassava, corn, beans, and other mixed plants, His Excellency Kun Kim expressed his deep emotion and admiration. "I commend the displaced citizens who have strived to arrange their lives, care for their homes, and cultivate crops around their houses. This activity is not only the practice of family agriculture but will yield tangible benefits, both in terms of sales for increased income and ensuring quality daily food consumption," he stated. Furthermore, His Excellency highlighted that the organization of housing and agricultural activities by the residents of Rong Cham village is perfectly aligned with the 'Beautiful House' competition program launched by the government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. This initiative, he explained, not only enhances the aesthetics, hygiene, and environment of their living spaces but also serves as a crucial foundation for boosting the local economy and improving family livelihoods. The new face and development of Rong Cham village are also a testament to the government's significant investment in developing key physical infrastructures. This includes the construction of roads, clean water and electricity networks, health centers, village and provincial working group offices, as well as the establishment of temporary schools and markets, and monthly financial support for each family. These achievements are contributing to the daily lives of the displaced citizens, providing them with a sense of warmth and a brighter future.
